CHAPTER 9: BENDING THE RULES

I felt relief wash over me as the jail doors swung open. And I felt even more relief after stepping outside into the golden glow of the setting sun. Walking to my car, I wondered how people could spend years or even the rest of their lives locked away.
Thank God for the existence of bail bonds and money, as I could leave those dreary walls behind in less than two days.
"Wow," Ray muttered as I got closer. "Just barely two days, and you already look like shit."
"I'm not in the mood," I replied, gesturing for him to toss me my keys.
"So where are we going?" He asked as I unlocked the car and slid in.
"I'm going home," I answered, sliding on the seatbelt.
"We are getting drinks later tonight," Ray began as he pressed down the window. "Bills are on me."
"Not tonight," I told him, my mind already made up. "I have other plans for later."
I started the car, pulling away from the center's front gates.
