I forced a smile as I sidestepped Charles and walked into the house.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world," I muttered after he shut the door and moved to stand in front of me. I could tell my flippant statement pleased him.
"Come," he said, taking my hand to lead me into an extravagantly furnished living room.
"You like?"
I didn't respond, but he continued anyway.
"I redecorated recently, just for you and this event."
My brows furrowed as I quickly processed his statement.
"How long did it take you to refurnish?"
He smiled broadly, letting go of my hand and gesturing for me to sit down. "Well, it took me about three weeks."
"Amelia was still okay then," I thought as the pieces clicked into place like a puzzle.
