Chapter 142: Getting Too Comfortable

On the way home, I noticed that Crystal was no longer as bubbly as she had been when we were in the mall. She sat in the taxi, furiously tapping at her phone’s screen.
I leaned in to see what she was typing that got her acting like that, but she moved the phone away.
“Marie, that’s an invasion of privacy, or do I need to remind you?” she said, giving me the ‘back off’ look.
“Sorry,” I said, rolling my eyes. “I was just worried about you. You don’t seem alright, and you’re typing like your life depends on it.”
“Who knows?” she said nonchalantly. “Maybe it does this time.”
I frowned, staring at her for a while. I knew that whatever was going on wasn’t life-threatening, but I didn’t think that Crystal would take her overdramatic nature too far. Something was wrong, for sure.
“Is it your boyfriend? Did you two break up?” I asked. I was partly trying to lighten the mood and partly trying to get her to talk.
