“Hey.” Julie waltzed into my room as I prepared for work, grinning brightly.
“What is it?” I asked, giving her a side glance as my face brightened into a smile, too.
“Your breakfast is ready.” She clasped her hands and sat on my bed, looking me over.
“Thanks.” I nodded. “The way you're smiling, it seems like you want to ask me for something.”
“Oh, you know me that well already,” Julie chuckled and reached out her hands to straighten my jacket.
“I want to assume I know you well,” I said, turning to the mirror to check myself. “So, what do you need?”
“Just what I've been asking you for since,” Julie straightened up, trying to sound casual, but her voice broke a bit.
“And what might that be that's making you nervous?” I asked, turning to her.
“My job,” she said flatly, looking up at me. “Can I get it back?”
“I’ve already told you—” I began, but she cut me off.
“I know, I know,” she ran a hand through her hair. “I’m just wondering if you would reconsider.”
