Chapter 9
"Come in, come in." There was no way my parents would chase Caleb away. He was a member of the Goldman family, Nord City's most affluent family. Everyone had to play nice with them.
If someone like Michael acted like a big deal, Caleb would have been even more so. He was Mr. Goldman Senior's youngest son. Because of that, Mr. Goldman Senior doted on him, giving him 70% of the Goldman family's fortune.
Despite being in the army, Caleb could call the shots in the family solely because he had the biggest piece of the pie. Everyone had to play nice with him, which was why Michael was so afraid of him. He could end up getting kicked out if he pissed Caleb off.
Mom and Dad had been in business in Nord City for long enough to know this. That was why they were as friendly and polite to Caleb as possible.
A feast had been prepared in his honor. He scooped food onto my plate while talking to Mom and Dad, acting like the most considerate boyfriend ever. I let him do it, enjoying his service.
