Tara looked stunned. Still, she kept her tone gentle. "I'm doing this for your good, Carrie. Please don't say such things to me. Mom, Dad, and I only want the best for you."
I chuckled and gripped her jaw. "I know Mom and Dad want the best for me, but it's hard to tell with you. Now, get out."
I kicked her out of my room. She'd put on her innocent act before me too many times to count.
I'd adored Tara when she'd first joined our family. Anything I had, she would get, too. Gradually, I discovered she wasn't as simple as she seemed.
She'd been scheming and manipulative since childhood; she also knew how to put on a pitiful act in front of others to earn their sympathy and adoration.
As a child, I'd had a doll that I'd adored. Tara could've borrowed it from me, but no—she wanted to possess it. So, she'd deliberately spoiled the doll. After I'd called her out for it, she'd burst into tears in front of Mom and Dad.
