Chapter Forty - Fletcher
The little bit of alcohol in my body had helped me sleep longer than I attended to. When I pried my eyes open the next day, the sun was higher in the sky than I intended it to be.
Ava wasn’t asleep beside me but I could hear the shower running in the distance.
She’d been worried sick about her sister the night before. I wasn’t completely convinced that she’d forgiven Ava and wanted to attend the ball.
She knew her sister better than I did, and apparently, she thought she was coming. I tore myself from bed and walked into the bathroom to find her exiting the shower.
There was a worry line on her forehead, which told me she hadn’t heard from Charlotte overnight.
I wasn’t sure if that was good or not. On one hand, it could mean she found some guy to go home with. On the other, it meant she was missing or avoiding Ava again.
“You didn’t hear from her?” I asked.
Ava shook her head as she pulled on her robe. “I’m going to check on her around mid-morning. It’ll give her enough time to
