CHAPTER THREE

The conference was over very quickly. For the question asked earlier, of course Thane saw it fit to push the ball towards me.Two could play the game, though. "What do you mean by what you said earlier in the conference?" Thane asked me while I tried to balance my eyes against the car door. "I just answered what you wanted me to, dear; did I do anything wrong?" My words came out so sickly sweet that it felt so harsh to my own ears. "Honey, I do understand that you are in a hurry to have a child, but isn't it better for us to wait a little because of my work?" Now this was the line. I was waiting to hear all this while the lie he had carefully crafted up. If he knew he wanted to wait so bad, why didn't he tell the whole world he was the one delaying our childbearing? "I'm sorry, I didn't know. I thought you wanted them to know I might be a mother soon." I pouted like I was about to burst into tears.Whether he liked it or not and whether people were here or not, I am his wife after all. He'd have to calm me down. "I'm sorry, I didn't know. I should have told you the questions you should expect." He wrapped his hands around me, yet rolled his eyes in front of me like I could see him. I knew something was wrong, though, even though it was too soon to be suspecting; my husband is smarter than I give him credit for.He might have gotten a whiff of it at least. Soon days passed, and it turned into weeks; holding onto this secret has been a great task.It has been hard avoiding eyes or avoiding things I wanted to see. "We are going to the orphanage today; you might be staying there for a while to take care of the children." I raised a brow as a smile slowly appeared on my face; it seemed he was getting tired of me already; that was faster than I expected. "Why?" I asked to use my stickers to move around."To increase the public image about you, the last time you went out was really embarrassing at the conference. It is time for you to correct your image." That was a lie made blatantly. Of course there is no need for a blind person to correct her image in front of the people when she actually did nothing wrong. "Oh, I'm sorry that I caused problems like I always do." "Go have your bath. I'll have some people do your makeup before we leave." He didn't bother replying to my words again. Picking up his phone and walking out of the room, probably to talk to one of his hoes.I couldn't help but bite my lips as tears prickled in my eyes.Trying to hold back my sniff seemed impossible as the tip of my nose turned red, and I was a mess.Rushing to the bathroom, I tried to hold the tears back so bad; if they fell, my face would be swollen, and Thane would complain.Quickly washing my face, I made sure I was alright before taking my bath. "Aren't you done?" Thane asked outside the bathroom door, sounding impatient. "I'm sorry, I'll soon be out." I could imagine him gritting his teeth in anger before walking away.Hearing his fading footsteps, I got out of the bathroom and walked over to pick up a towel. I knew he didn't keep my towel in the bathroom anymore just so I could come out naked and in need of a towel. How did I end up in this marriage? My eyes moved to the beautiful view outside the window; everything seems to be peaceful outside there, not in the four walls of this mansion. "Good, you are ready." The people in charge of dressing me up came in with Thane, who walked out right after. "Hello ma'am, you look as beautiful as ever; please, let's start quickly." There were three ladies in total. The one in the middle seemed to do most of the talking with me while the other two said not even a word. I nodded and behaved myself in front of them; they didn't ask me to see myself in front of the mirror, though. They thought I couldn't see.But I could see the beautiful girl who looked like a replica of her mother staring back at me in the mirror. "Hurry up!" Thane walked in to pull me towards the car barefoot while the maid rushed to get my shoe. "Please be gentle; I forgot my cane." The man, who was now seated with me in the car, didn't seem to care. His eyes stayed on the road. Is that how badly he wished me gone? Getting to the orphanage, the children all came out to greet the both of us while I had to pretend I couldn't see the pretty faces staring at me happily.A girl rushed over; her milk teeth in front had been removed. "Hi I'm Yvonne" she stretched her little hand towards me and just as I was about to shake her tiny hands I realized I am supposed to be blind.I didn't reply her or say a word which made her pout like she was about to burst into tears." "Is anyone in front of me Thane?" I wrapped my hand around that of my husband like a lovely couple. "Yes, a little girl." "Is she the one named Yvonne?" "Yes." I noticed Thane raised an eyebrow at that, but I wasn't bothered at the moment. The only thing I cared about right now was the little girl who looked ignored. "Yes, I'm Yvonne. Would you like me to show you around?" She raised her hand to touch mine while I wrapped my hand around hers and nodded. "She'd be the one in charge of taking care of you since you are so fond of the little one just some minutes after getting here," I heard Thane speak, which made me pause. "Don't worry; I'll take really good care of her," the innocent Yvonne spoke up as a sign left my lips. She was too young to understand.
