The next morning, Bethany woke up early and began getting ready to leave.
"Beth, are you really sure you don‘t want me to come with you?" Jenny asked again.
"No, I'm good. Just stay home with Ely," Bethany replied before giving Elysia a quick goodbye. "Ely, I'm heading out. I'll be back soon."
Jenny walked Bethany to the door, her concern showing. "Good luck. I hope everything goes smoothly with the divorce."
Bethany waved and headed out. For some reason, she felt surprisingly calm this time. It was almost like she was only running out to pick up some groceries.
When she arrived at the courthouse, she had nearly 20 minutes to spare before the session started. She hadn't expected Trystan to have already arrived. He was sitting alone in a chair in the hallway.
When he saw her, he stood up and called, "Over here."
She was startled for a moment but then walked over with a smile.
"Let's sit for a bit," Trystan said. This was the first time he had been so polite with her.
