AURORA.
It was a little after four o’clock in the evening when I returned home. My conversation with Mateo was still stuck in my head and it didn’t look like it would be going away anytime soon. Caught up in the web of the day, I’d forgotten to call Nathaniel to tell him I would not be going in. It would be a miracle if he didn’t fire me after this. I took out my phone and sent him a brief apology, explaining that events beyond my control had occurred and I was sorry for not informing him.
After the day I had, I only needed a hot bath and food in my stomach.
I certainly did not need the quizzical look Lola gave me the second I walked in through the door. Sighing, I walked to the small dining area and dropped my bag on the wooden round table. Dropping into a chair, I sighed again. “Alright, let it out, Lola. Let’s hear it.”
