AURORA.
I stared at Mateo, who lifted his cup of coffee to his lips and took a sip, with my arms folded across my chest as I leaned back against my chair. We were at a little coffee just a short distance from the production company. It was better we spoke here than to have Mateo make a scene back at his company for all to see and hear.
I knew I had spent way more than the hour I told Nathaniel would be away but I was too caught up in my own mind to focus long enough to text him another message. I was risking my job, one I loved very much by the way to be here with a man I’d rather not see, to have a conversation I’d rather not have. Jesus. This was a mistake. What was I doing here?
“So, how have you been, Ysa?” Mateo asked. “You look even more beautiful than when we last saw.”
His pet name for me forcefully took me down memory lane and I tried my hardened best to not let it show that he was affecting me. “Don’t call me that, Mateo.” Whatever his plan was, it wouldn’t work.
