Never in my life had I even dreamed of that kind of money and I’d won it in a game of poker? Rich people might make me sick but taking their money was a sweet feeling.
It was almost midnight now. I lay on the queen-sized bed in my room thinking about how Nathaniel had ended the game after that one round for fear that his friends would make me play again so they could win back their money. He did not have to. I was not a fool; I knew when to stop. They had all lost one hundred thousand dollars—even if I worked every day for the entire year, I would never make up to that amount—without breaking a sweat.
Being Nathaniel’s assistant had skyrocketed me to heights I never thought I would attain.
