Chapter 3

I had just walked out of the hotel when I saw Bianca waiting for me at the main entrance. "Prepare yourself for the meeting with the board of directors in a while. I'll go with you." I didn't even have time to reject her when she forcefully pulled me into her car. Seeing that I was very calmly laid back in the seat with my eyes closed, she anxiously tore my bag open and flipped through the documents. "Where is your notebook? Have you seen the documents in the group? Don't you dare embarrass me at the meeting later, understand? You know what to report later, right?" "Group? What group are you talking about?" I had just asked her those two questions when Jaxon, who was in the front passenger seat, turned around with a guilty look on his face. "I'm sorry, Bibi, but I think I forgot to add him into the group." He hadn't just conveniently "forgotten" to add me to whatever group they were talking about. My own project was being launched, yet no one had even bothered to tell me about it either. I didn't even have to think to know who was behind all this. "But it's fine, right? It's your company after all. You can just wing it," Jaxon added. "Nope. I think Mr. Chadwick can go about it. He's the company's top salesman after all, and I'm pretty sure that he's a lot more familiar with how the company runs compared to me," I replied. "Aston, you…" I could tell that Bianca was mad, but she couldn't do anything about it. Today's meeting was a very important one for the company. She was nothing but a shell of a CEO who knew nothing about how things worked in the company, so she didn't dare to offend me now. However, when Jaxon heard what I said, he seemed extremely delighted. "It'll be fine, Ms. Leblanc! I'm very familiar with how everything works in the company. It won't matter whether it's me or Mr. Daniels who talks to the investors later." He seemed pretty excited, as if he couldn't wait to show off in front of the board of directors so that he could very soon cement his position as the company's CEO. "Don't worry, Ms. Leblanc. I'm a very good drinker. I won't get drunk even if they pour me a hundred shots of whisky!" I just briefly glanced at him in disdain. He probably thought that the company investors were no different from his usual clients, who would easily fall for his sales gimmicks after just a few rounds of drinks and award him contracts worth billions of dollars just like that. Bianca looked unhappy as she tugged on my sleeve a few times. But I shook her off each time. When we reached the company, Jaxon was the first to get out of the car. The guards at the company had all been replaced. They greeted Jaxon earnestly and called him "Mr. Chadwick" like he was the CEO, while completely ignoring me as I walked at the back of the group. The board of directors, who had been waiting for me since early in the morning, stiffened at once. However, seeing that I didn't seem to mind, the incident just quickly blew over. Paul Kingsley, the deputy CEO, was the first person to greet me properly. "You're finally here, Mr. Daniels! Mr. Terry Goldsmith, the investor, seems very interested in your latest project. He's just waiting for some more explanation from you before signing the contract!" Paul purposely mentioned it in an attempt to protect my image and reputation. I knew it, but I just smiled and said, "Thank you, Mr. Kingsley, but you're slightly mistaken. I've already resigned from the company. I'm just here as an observer today." Hearing this, Bianca immediately turned her head around and glared at me in disbelief. "Resigned? Who allowed you to resign? I never approved it, so you still belong to this company!"
