CHAPTER 72: A TINY GIVEAWAY
A crescent moon hung from the sky, the forest, a living, breathing entity with the souls of everything that ever lived.
The sounds of night creatures were both unnerving and weirdly comforting as Drakon, with Zack and six other men, tore through the forest; their senses heightened even more in their wolf forms.
"We must split up," Drakon ordered, already picking a side to venture towards. It was good that their pack was bonded by blood and solidarity so that they could communicate.
"I'm heading west," Drakon said, "if someone sees or finds anything, immediately let me know." He finished and then waited for their collective voices of acknowledgment before delving deeper into the thickets.
He was hearing things, her voice precisely, and although it was an illusion, the pain in them was real.
"I'm coming, Shirley."
He combed through the forest, taking meticulous whiffs of everything for any signs of his wife, but there was nothing. It was almost as if he had imagined everything.
