Chapter 18

Sharon was standing about 30 feet away from us, with Javin by her side. I calmly looked away from her and swiftly took the napkin. Noticing my lack of reaction, Sharon walked right up to me and demanded, "Kaelan, I was talking to you. Didn't you hear me?" May couldn't hold back anymore even before I could respond. "Are you serious? Who do you think you are to question Kaelan like that? His ex-wife?" Sharon shot a cold glance at May. "I'm talking to Kaelan. It's not your place to butt in." May let out a scoff, reclining lazily in her chair. "Can't you see he doesn't want to talk to you?" Sharon was taken aback. "Kaelan, I want to hear it from you." She completely ignored May, seemingly assuming I would take her side. However, I didn't spare her even one glance. "Sharon, stop making a scene." Sharon's eyes widened in disbelief, clearly shaken. "What do you mean? I caught you flirting with this woman, and you say I'm making a scene!" May chuckled softly. "Don't be ridiculous. You have no right to meddle in Kaelan's relationships." I nodded in agreement, my expression calm and unaffected. "We're already divorced. Also, May is my business partner, not just some ‘woman' as you so disrespectfully put it. Please show some respect." Sharon stared at me, her gaze complex as if trying to see right through me. By now, May and I had both risen from our seats. She walked up beside me, linking her arm through mine and resting her head affectionately on my shoulder. "You heard him. You're just part of his past, so stop meddling," she boasted while clinging tightly to my arm, as if worried I might pull away. As we stood close, her perfume became even more noticeable. I knew May was helping me, and because of that, I played along, wrapping my arm around her waist. "If there's nothing else, we're going to continue our meal. Please feel free to give us our privacy." I didn't think Sharon was jealous. She didn't love me. She just wasn't used to seeing someone she once had her claim on suddenly in love with someone else. Especially when that person happened to be her biggest nemesis. Sharon's expression shifted, and I could no longer read the emotions she was trying to convey. She just stared at me, unmoving, until Javin nervously tugged at her. "Don't listen to them bragging. He's just a murderer. He's not even worthy of you, Sharon." Sharon seemed to come back to her senses upon hearing that. She smirked, mocking, "Why would I care about him?" Javin, now feeling triumphant, called over the restaurant manager. When the manager saw Sharon standing beside Javin, his attitude immediately shifted to one of deep respect. "Ms. Tatham, you should've informed us of your arrival! Please forgive me for not giving you a proper welcome." Sharon gave him a slight nod. Javin pointed at me, speaking in a haughty tone, "Do you let just anyone into this restaurant? Are you seriously making us eat in the same room as a murderer? Get them out of here! What bad luck!" I stared coldly at Javin. He sure knew how to act tough just because Sharon had influence. The manager glanced at Sharon. Then, he waved his hand dismissively at us. "We don't welcome people like you here. Leave, now!" She frowned slightly as if she was about to stop things. However, Javin quickly wrapped his arm around Sharon, sounding pitiful and completely different from his earlier cocky self. "I don't want to see them," he muttered. Sharon's gaze softened with affection. "Whatever you want." My heart sank, and my fingertips turned white from clenching them so hard. With Sharon's silent consent, the manager called for security, who slowly began approaching us. I turned to May with an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry for dragging you into this. Looks like we can't even finish our meal in peace." Sharon watched us with a cold expression. "If you know what's good for you, you'll leave now. Don't upset Javin any further."
