Chapter 13 Taking Her Side

Charlotte didn't move, and Jason's voice grew more gloomy. "Do I have to invite you into my office?" Gritting her teeth, Charlotte followed him into the CEO's office. Veronica was so agitated that she stomped her feet, wondering, 'What right does Charlotte have to keep ruining my business?' It was depressing in the office. Charlotte didn't dare to make a sound. "Organize these files." Jason threw a stack of information at her. Charlotte hurriedly set her hands on the files. When Charlotte first met Jason, she was told to help him organize his files. Jason had taught her how to handle them. Later, Charlotte got more work to do, so someone else to her place to organize Jason's files. It had been a long time since Charlotte last worked together with Jason so quietly. There were many files, but Charlotte wasn't flustered. She soon sorted out all the information. "These are the project payments with the Hoyce Group, Mr. Langley. These are the projects with the Lynch family..." Charlotte presented the files meticulously. She had done such a good job that Jason couldn't find faults with her. He suddenly said, "The makeup you're wearing is a bit too much." Charlotte forced a smile and explained, "My complexion doesn't look nice enough since I didn't sleep well last night, so I have to wear heavy makeup." Jason sneered. "Are you blaming it on me then?" "Go..." "Go make me my coffee." Jason handed his mug to her. Charlotte took it and went to the tea room. Jason had always instructed her to make his coffee, and she was clear of how Jason liked it. "Charlotte." Veronica stopped Charlotte when she was done with making the coffee. "I'm quite busy with my work, Ms. Jules. You've stopped me three times this morning. You don't need to keep showing up in front of me." Charlotte couldn't help talking back to her. Veronica showed a mocking smile. "You now have two days left, Charlotte. Are you sure you can fix the contract?" Charlotte didn't bother to explain to her. "That's my business." "Stop right there!" Veronica didn't allow her to leave. "Let me tell you something - I won't let you have your way and stay in the company. You'll be kicked out sooner or later!" Charlotte's eyes darkened. "The manager of the human resource department has just been fired." "What do you mean?" A trace of fleeting guilt appeared on Veronica's face. Charlotte took the coffee and turned to leave. "How dare you mock me!" Veronica snatched the coffee and splashed it on Charlotte. Her white shirt was immediately covered in coffee stains. Charlotte's eyes turned gloomy as she lowered her head to check her shirt. "Do you think I can't teach you a lesson?" Veronica clenched her fists. "I'll be marrying Jason soon. Don't think you can show off to me just because you used to hook up with him. This is just pathetic!" "This coffee is for Mr. Langley." Charlotte looked down at the shattered mug. Veronica's face changed drastically with a flustered look in her eyes. "What are you talking about?" "Nothing." Charlotte didn't care, so she walked away. Veronica felt a bit guilty when Charlotte walked into the office in a mess. "Where's my coffee?" There was gloom in Jason's eyes. "The mug slipped, and I accidentally dropped it." Charlotte didn't mention what Veronica did and took the blame. Jason snorted indifferently. "How could you fail such a small job? What does Silas see in you?" "I'll go change my shirt." With that, Charlotte took a set of clothes to change into. When Veronica saw Charlotte come out of the office, she rushed over right away. "What did you say to Jason?" "You want to know?" Charlotte deliberately lowered her voice. "Ask him about it." "Hey!" Veronica was annoyed and agitated. Charlotte didn't want to bother with her. She was too busy to play tricks against Veronica. "I accidentally flipped the coffee, so I'll help you change your clothes." Veronica followed Charlotte into the dressing room. Charlotte tried to drive her out of the room, but Veronica insisted on staying. Helpless, Charlotte could only allow her to stay. She was not feeling well with her belly, so she found it nice to have help. Veronica helped take off her shirt. A large part of her skin had turned red from the scald. Charlotte didn't find it painful at the beginning. When she took off her shirt, the scald hurt, which made her groan a bit. "What a drama queen. It's not that serious." Veronica rolled her eyes at her. Charlotte didn't bother to talk to her. She took out the clean clothes and was about to change into them when Veronica sharply spotted the hickeys and bruises on her, which showed that she had sex. Anger overwhelmed Veronica in an instant. There were many people surrounding outside the dressing room. Janice immediately walked up to support Charlotte. "Are you okay, Charlotte? I heard that there was noise in the room, so I called Mr. Langley over." "I'm fine." Charlotte nodded, but her ashen face showed that she was exhausted. "Jason, it was Charlotte..." Jason looked at Veronica gloomily and indifferently said, "The partnership between Jules and Langley is now ended, Veronica Jules." "No, Jason. You can't do this. You can't let this woman bewitch you!" Veronica was terrified and tried to throw herself at Jason. However, he took a few steps back, not showing her any mercy. He didn't hold her accountable for what happened in the morning, by which he was showing great respect to her. But now, she was causing trouble again, which showed that she didn't take him seriously. "I'm sorry, Jason. This won't happen again!" Veronica stepped back in fear. Expressionless, Jason ordered, "Send Ms. Jules home!" His bodyguard got out of the crowd and took Veronica to leave. Charlotte was quite shocked that Jason unexpectedly took her side, but she suddenly felt quite dizzy, and the throbbing pain from her belly was growing more and more violent. Swaying a bit, Charlotte tried to hold on to Janice out of instinct, but she was so powerless that she fell. "Charlotte!" Janice tried hard to support Charlotte, but her strength was limited, and Charlotte was about to fall to the floor. Jason picked Charlotte up and held her in his arms when he said in a low voice, "What happened to you? I'll take you to the hospital."
