The mountain road was rugged, and as I reached a downhill stretch, I intended to slow the car down.
But the brakes seemed completely ineffective. No matter how hard I pressed down on it, the car continued to surge forward, gaining speed as it descended the slope. I desperately slammed the brake pedal, but it didn't help.

But how could this happen? I had just had the car serviced and maintained before coming here. How could the brakes malfunction now?
