Chapter 10 Retaliation

“To my adorable little sister and my ex-boyfriend, I still have a present that I want to give to you two. I hope you’ll like it.” Annie increased the volume of her voice. She wanted everyone to hear, and it was also the first time she admitted in front of so many people that she was James Lane’s daughter. Other than Annie, everyone else’s eyes widened in shock as they saw the four flower wreaths that were being brought in. Sending flower wreaths to the scene of a wedding?! That was too ruthless! It was not just them. Even the few young fellows who had brought the wreaths in were stunned. This place… Was it possible that they had entered the wrong door? This was the right address though. Forget about it. After setting up the flower wreaths, they escaped immediately. This place… had too much of a murderous atmosphere. “Ah! Annie Lane!” Upon seeing this scene, Sophie was beside herself in fury. Still in her wedding dress, she jumped off the stage and lunged straight at Annie. “Sophie!” Seeing a good wedding being turned into a farce of a situation in front of his eyes, James was also so anxious that he was covered in sweat. However, both sides were his daughters. Even though he was usually partial to Sophie, he just found out today that Mason was Annie’s boyfriend, so the guilt he had in his heart toward Annie increased a bit more. On the other hand, his wife and Sophie’s mother, Susie Ziegler, did not share this sentiment. Without hesitation, she strode up and grabbed Sophie before walking straight up to face Annie. She looked at Annie with a serious look on her face. Without saying a word, she lifted her arm and brought it down in the direction of Annie’s face. Annie had been prepared for this from the start. The old her would have silently endured it, even if she knew she would be hit, but today’s version of her did not plan to suffer! With dextrous reactions, Annie grabbed the hand that was swinging toward her face and gave a cold laugh. “Aunt Susie, did you not like the big present that I prepared for Sophie? I’m the child of a poor family, yet I spent quite a bit of money on these wreaths. Otherwise, why don’t I give you the receipt, and you could reimburse me?” This was the first time that Annie spoke to Susie with such a derisive tone. Previously, she had always been meek and submissive, so she was bullied by the mother-daughter duo. Today, however, she had been pushed to the limit. This grudge had been made a long time ago anyway, and retreating would not bring peace. Seeing the cold smile on Annie’s lips, Susie’s body shuddered. Beneath her exquisite makeup was a hideously savage face. In this life, the women she despised the most were Sharon Ziegler and Annie Lane. Today was her baby daughter’s wedding, and for Annie to actually come and ruin it, she must have eaten the heart of a bear and the gall of a leopard! “Security, throw her out!” Susie used all of her strength to struggle out of Annie’s grip and pointed her nutmeg-painted nail at Annie’s nose as she shouted fiercely at the security guards at the door. “Mom, we can’t let her go just like that!” Sophie rushed forward to stand beside Susie. Her vicious gaze was filled with venom, and she could not contain her fury. “Sophie, forget about it.” Mason had followed along, and he pulled pleadingly on Sophie’s arm. Although he also had some anger in his heart, he still had some residual feelings for Annie that he could not get rid of. Previously, he had only broken up with Annie because he was tricked by that picture. He had no idea that it was just Sophie’s plan. When he saw Annie holding on to another man as she told him that she wanted to break up, only then did he realize that he still had feelings for Annie. However, the allure of the Lane family business was too great a temptation, and he could not resist it. Mason’s initial plan was to first obtain the Lane family business, and then secretly get together with Annie, so he shielded Annie now because he did not want to hurt her too much. However, his actions did not sit well with Sophie. She pointed accusingly at Mason’s nose and shouted, “Mason Quinn, don’t forget that it was you who initially knelt on the ground and begged to be with me. You said so yourself that you were just playing around with her. And you, Annie Lane, you’ve clearly betrayed Mason before, so don’t try to play the victim here!” Sophie only revealed all of these secrets in front of all of these people as she could not think straight through her anger. Meanwhile, the most awkward person in this scenario was James. He practically lost all his face today. “Annie, stop making a fuss. Today is your sister’s wedding. Whatever wrongs you’ve endured, just bear with it for the moment. Dad will make it up to you.” James sighed as he went up to Annie and tugged on her arm, speaking in a soft voice. Upon hearing these words, Annie only felt sad. The man she loved already married someone else. How did he plan to make it up to her? “Dad, why are you protecting her? She’s the one who ruined my wedding, so she should just go to hell!” Sophie’s twisted mentality was acting up again. As long as anyone spoke on Annie’s behalf, she felt particularly annoyed, so she did not process the words in her brain before letting them out of her mouth. “Sophie, Annie is your sister!” James scolded Sophie with a dark look on his face. He could not understand how his usually cute and gentle daughter could say something like that. Having been reprimanded, Sophie's temper became even worse. She pulled on Susie’s wrist, looking aggrieved. “What sister? Is a person like her fit to be part of the Lane family?” said Susie. “Security, get her out! James Lane, if you dare to protect her today, then Sophie and I are breaking ties with you!” Susie was never a person who was easily controlled. Even in front of James, she had never treated Annie well, let alone when her baby daughter was being bullied.
