FIVE HUNDRED YEARS AGO
Five days later, Andrew took Rose to the guard post on the northern border under the guise of giving her a tour.
The guardhouse at the post was a simple structure with one bed and a dining area. It was also far away from any settlement, and was the most discreet place for an undisturbed rendezvous.
When he knocked on the door to the house, it was Dale who opened the door. He was bright-eyed, his blonde hair tousled in all directions as if he had been running his hand through it.
Andrew had the urge to smooth it out but stopped himself at the last second. Now was not the time to be affectionate with his friend. He didn’t want to scare Rose away before they got to the main event.
“Come in,” Dale said, stepping aside for them to pass through. As he said it, his eyes openly focused on Rose.
Taking her hand, Andrew led her to the table in the room and guided her into a seat. Dale closed the door and joined them at the table, taking a seat on the other side.
