Chapter Fifty Seven: There is Fire on the Mountain. Run! Run! Run!
Nora was troubled as she walked back to the car.
There was fire on the mountain. She needed to act drastically to take out the fire.
She stepped down on the gas as she drove toward the house of the shaman she patronized.
Canaan had made her look inferior in the eyes of his employees. They didn't respect her anymore.
Tears welled in her eyes when she recalled Mark's rebuke.
He had treated her like a child. He had looked down on her, and it was all Canaan's fault.
She increased the speed, stepping down on the gas.
She arrived at the shaman's house and parked her car.
The shaman's house was situated in a small, rural neighborhood.
Weeds lurked around every corner of the small house. The temple where she worshipped and received visitors was the most spacious part of the house, while the other rooms beside it looked more like pantries than actual living quarters.
The shaman had been living alone since Nora had known her. She had no family or children; it was just her and her gods.
