Chapter 3 The Interview
Half a month later, Tia appeared at an interview for the position of assistant to the CEO at a financial company.
According to the information Sorian had gathered, Aaron was currently recruiting for this role.
This was her best chance to get close to Aaron.
“The interview is delayed by half an hour. The CEO has some personal matters to attend to.”
The manager in charge of the interview informed the candidates in the conference room.
As soon as the manager left, the room buzzed with chatter.
“Hey, I heard that Mr. Aaron’s fiancée is here!”
“Is that true? Didn’t Mr. Aaron’s fiancée die a long time ago?”
“Haven’t you heard? This so-called fiancée is just a woman who looks very similar to Mr. Aaron's real fiancée back then. She set her sights on him because of his status and willingly attached herself to him. At most, she’s just a mistress who can't come out in the open.”
“Tsk tsk, I wonder what extraordinary skills she has.”
“What skills? She’s just relying on her looks!”
Listening to the gossip, Tia felt a bit disgusted.
She had thought Aaron was a deep and passionate person, but now, it seemed he was just a fickle man who quickly moved on.
It had not even been that long since his fiancée passed away.
Tia was deep in thought when her attention was suddenly drawn to two figures downstairs.
A tall man was walking ahead, followed by a slender woman with wine-red hair.
Tia’s pupils dilated instantly.
She would recognize that figure even if it were badly mutilated.
It was her half-sister, Angelica.
“Look, that’s Aaron Caius!”
Someone pointed downstairs in surprise.
“Is that his lover?”
“She’s not even drop-dead gorgeous. How did Mr. Aaron fall for her?”
Tia saw Angelica clinging to Aaron’s arm with a flirtatious demeanor, and a wave of nausea welled up in her stomach.
Was Angelica not already involved with Vick?
After such a short time, she had dumped him and was trying to seduce Aaron?
A scoundrel matched with a lowly woman; it was a match made in heaven.
However, if Angelica truly managed to ensnare Aaron, it would be even harder for Tia to reclaim the family fortune from that despicable couple.
Tia clenched her fists, forcing herself to suppress her emotions.
She could not afford to lose her composure. She needed to observe the situation first.
Half an hour later, Aaron entered the conference room.
He had dazzling golden hair, a strikingly handsome face with full, red lips, and piercing blue eyes that seemed to radiate an enchanting allure. It was as if they could draw people in.
His well-defined muscles were evident even in the perfectly tailored suit. He exuded a powerful presence with every movement.
Tia could feel her heart beating rapidly.
The moment their eyes met for an instant, she held her breath almost subconsciously.
Aaron furrowed his brows, his gaze briefly passing over Tia’s face before scanning the room.
“Apologies for the delay, everyone,” Aaron lowered his body slightly and said in a cold tone.
The interviewees were entranced by Aaron’s striking appearance and noble demeanor. They almost could not contain their infatuated smiles.
“Now, let the interviews begin,” the manager nodded to Aaron and announced.
As a leading financial company in the country, Aaron had strict requirements for selecting an executive assistant.
The interviewees felt the pressure as they faced various professional questions and scenarios, making it a challenging experience.
The interviewees were all outstanding individuals, making it challenging to stand out.
Tia approached this interview with a determination to succeed and had made adequate preparations. Her performance during the interview was decent.
After the interview, the manager informed everyone to await the results.
Tia breathed a sigh of relief and slowly made her way to the elevator. However, she noticed that it was crowded, so she decided to take the stairs instead.
Unexpectedly, she encountered Aaron at the corner of the staircase.
Tia tightened her grip on the documents in her hand and met Aaron’s gaze.
“Mr. Aaron, hello.”
Aaron seemed to have some recollection of Tia. “Were you here for the interview?”
“Yes, Mr. Aaron,” Tia replied politely.
“Hmm,” Aaron said with one hand in his pocket as he eyed Tia up and down. He asked, “Have we met somewhere before?”
Tia gasped inwardly. “You must be mistaken, Mr. Aaron. We’ve never met before.”
“Is that so?” Aaron squinted his eyes and leaned in slightly. “You bear a resemblance to a friend of mine.”
Tia was somewhat speechless.
Did he want to say that she resembled his deceased fiancée?
Did this man have a habit of collecting substitutes wherever he went?
If it was so easy for him to love one woman after another, why bother using the pretext of avenging his fiancée to take revenge on her father?
“It’s probably just a coincidence.” Tia forced a smile.
Aaron pursed his thin lips without responding.
Tia genuinely felt that she could not stay with this man any longer. With a polite nod, she prepared to leave.
“Wait,” Aaron suddenly called out to her.
Tia felt a nervous lump in her throat.
Could he have discovered something?
Before coming for the interview, Sorian had already arranged a new identity for her. There were no flaws in her resume.
Even so, Aaron was no ordinary person; he might have noticed something.
“You seem to be afraid of me,” Aaron said in a deep, resonant voice that was magnetic. It was like the call of a siren.
“Why would you say that, Mr. Aaron?”
“Have I done anything that might’ve frightened you?” Aaron raised his eyebrows.
“Not at all. You’re overthinking it, Mr. Aaron.” Tia smiled unnaturally.
When Tia was harassed in prison, she initially thought it was Vick and Angelica’s doing. However, she later learned from Sorian that Aaron was the true mastermind.
Vick and Angelica were responsible for sending her to prison, while Aaron had no intention of letting her out.
They had conspired back then, and she was merely the prey.
“What’s your name?” Aaron changed the subject.
“Ana.”
Of course, it was a fake name.
“Ana?” Aaron’s lips curled into a meaningful smile.
Tia was taken aback and clearly felt Aaron’s icy gaze.
Her head was spinning, and the overwhelming pressure made it hard for her to breathe.
It was not until Aaron had left for a long time that Tia regained her composure. Her back was already damp with sweat.
Three days later, Tia received a response from the company.
She had passed the interview. She stood out among the 20 candidates and became Aaron’s assistant.
