"They won't," Max interrupted. "At least, not until after the gala. We'll deal with Derek and his team, I promise. But right now, we need to present a united front."
Ava stood up, gathering her documents. "I hope you know what you're doing, Max. This could backfire spectacularly."
As she turned to leave, Max called out, "Ava, wait. I need you to give a speech at the gala."
Ava froze. "A speech? Max, I don't think that's a good idea. I'm not exactly the most popular person in the company right now."
Max smiled. "That's exactly why I need you to do it. Show them why I trust you, why you're an asset to this company. Can I count on you?"
Ava hesitated, then nodded reluctantly. "Alright, Max. I'll do it."
As she left Max's office, her mind was whirling. She was so preoccupied that she almost collided with Olivia Reeves.
"Ava, just the person I was looking for," Olivia said, her voice low. "Do you have a moment?"
Intrigued, Ava nodded. "Of course. What's on your mind?"
