Chapter 60
MAGNAR'S POV
I made my way over and deliberately took the seat directly across from her. I wanted to force her to acknowledge me, to look me in the eyes, but she didn’t. Her gaze remained firmly on the plate of pancakes in front of her, her face impassive. It was like I didn’t exist to her.
So my presence really didn't effect her. Did she forget what I did?
I don't think so, at least I can't forget no matter how hard I try.
The room was heavy with silence, save for the occasional clinking of silverware against plates. No one spoke, but I noticed Valeria’s subtle movements. She wasn’t eating mindlessly like the rest of us. Every time she picked up a piece of food, her eyes darted toward my father. She was only eating what he ate.
Was she copying him? No. The careful way she watched his actions, the hesitation before taking a bite—it was something else. She didn’t trust us. She didn’t trust him. And, honestly, I couldn’t blame her.
