Chapter 5 Gretel Meets Mark Pattinson
Eventually, all items were purchased.
Lyla turned to her daughter and said, “All done, Gretel. We’re done shopping and it’s time to go back!”
“Mummy, I still want to buy something!” said Gretel.
Lyla nodded and said, “Okay, but be quick about it. Your elder brother is still waiting for us at home!”
Gretel nodded and ran off to the place she had in mind.
When she found something that she liked and wanted, it was too high up and out of reach.
That being said, it was not a problem for her.
She turned towards a couple who were doing their own shopping and approached them. With confidence and the confidence that different genders attract, while the same repelled, she went for the man and caught his hand.
“Uncle, could you please help Gretel take something?”
Mark Pattionson was doing his own shopping when he felt someone catching his hand. He turned around and saw a petite little girl no higher than his waist, looking at him with such cute eyes.
Something about the look in her eyes inexplicably caught his attention.
He had seen many beautiful little childrens but not many were so spirited, beautiful, the kind that sparked endearing sentiments.
“Are you talking to me?” Mark arched an eyebrow and asked. His handsome, charming look, followed by his symmetrical complexion exuded nothing but the aura of a handsome man.
When Gretel saw his face, her jaw dropped…
Kathleen Turner looked on from the side. And when she saw the little girl in front of her, she said, “I’m sorry but we’re going now!”
She turned to Mark Pattinson and said, “Mark, let’s go!”
“Please wait!” Gretel said hurriedly.
“Uncle, you wouldn’t be that heartless, would you?” said Gretel, pouting her lips.
Mark Pattinson smirked. Inexplicably, he compromised and worked with her.
“Alright then, what do you want?”
Gretel smiled immediately.
“That one! On the top! The strawberry flavored fruit jelly!”
Mark went ahead and reached for the box of helly and handed it to Gretel.
“There you go.”
“Thank you, uncle! You’re so kind and handsome. I’m sure you will be very happy!” said Gretel with a sickly sweet smile.
“Well, thanks!” Marked replied and smiled in return.
“Unlike someone not as kind towards little kids! She’s not suited for you!” said Gretel with a smile.
Somehow, Kathleen Turner felt she was the person the girl was talking about.
“Uncle, what is your name?” Gretel asked, wide-eyed, as she let her curiosity get the better of her.
At that moment, Kathleen could not keep quiet and bent over to look at her.
“Little girl, did no one at home teach you that you’re not supposed to talk to strangers?”
“I did learn that! That is why, miss, you should not talk to me!”
Kathleen failed to find the words to refute her.
“Uncle! You still haven’t told me your name!”
It was clear that she might be young and small but she was a clever little girl.
“My name is Mark Pattinson!” he said.
Mark Pattinson… Gretel murmured the name to herself and smiled promptly after.
“I’ll remember your name! If I encounter any nice girls, I will introduce them to you!”
Mark Pattinson laughed while Kathleen Turner went speechless.
She threw a glance at the little girl and wrapped her arms around Mark Pattinson’s and said, “Come on then, Mark. Let us leave.”
Only then did Mark nod and said, “Alright. Off we go then.”
Gretel nodded in return and said, “Okay. Take care, uncle!”
Mark laughed and left with Kathleen.
Gretel stood still with her hands holding both her Barbie doll and the box of fruit jelly, thinking about something.
‘Mark Pattinson… Mark Pattinson…’
A trickster’s grin formed and her little clear, innocent-like eyes flashed a glint of trickery.
At that moment, Lyla came in and shouted her name.
“Gretel! Gretel!”
“Mummy! I’m here!” cried Gretel as she walked out.
Lyla glared at her and said, “What did you get? What took you so long?”
Gretel hurriedly placed the box of jelly into the cart and smiled ever so innocently to her mother.
“Mummy! I just met a very handsome uncle! He was super handsome!”
