Chapter 13 Just A Coincidence
When it was the evening, after working hours, Lyla was still going through some documents.
She had just received a case.
Someone came over to her and said, “Miss Lowe. You will be in charge of this project.”
He placed the dossier on her table.
Lyla nodded.
“Sure. No problem. Leave it to me.”
“About this… You need to go to the president’s office and have the president sign this,” another one came over and said.
“Will do. I’ll get it done in a while,” said Lyla as she looked at the documents and nodded.
‘Fuck me. What will happen next? I’m so scared!’
After that person left, Lyla examined the documents to understand the project better. She looked around the place and noticed others were still working very busily.
Confound it, what had to be done, had to be done. It was just a signature. That being said, it would not be appropriate to ask someone else to do such a small task in her stead.
At last, she took the documents and headed to the president’s office.
When she was at the door, she calmed herself down. Just when she was about to knock on the door, she could faintly hear something from inside the room.
She was not very sensitive to eavesdropping but the fact that the sound coming from in the room was just… provoking…
“Oh Mark, I was just missing you…”
“I’m working now, Kathleen.”
“Don’t be like that. Kiss me…”
What followed next was the sound that would surely make someone blush.
Lyla stood outside the room as she could not go in nor could she leave.
It went without saying that what was happening inside the room would be R-Rated stuff.
To think that President Pattinson lived up to the rumors, to behave as what she heard from the other colleagues.
That being said, all that was happening, happened in the president’s office. Perhaps it was their kind of lifestyle, never in the slumps, doing what they like.
But then again, as long as they do not affect someone else.
At that moment, she was thinking about going away.
However, the president’s assistant came over.
“Miss, are you meeting the president?” said the assistant in a very formal manner.
It was too late for her to leave now. As such, she persisted on and said, “I’m here to request for President Pattinson’s signature.”
“Well, the president is around,” said the assistant, oblivious to what was happening inside. If he did, he would never have said such a thing.
“Well… I…. erhm…”
Just when Lyla was trying to reply, the door suddenly opened.
She suddenly felt a powerful sense of enmity.
“What do you want?” a deep husky voice rang from inside the room.
That face… Every time Lyla saw that face that looked like Hansel, her heart would skip a beat.
“Hello, President Pattinson, I have here some documents for you to sign,” said Lyla as she walked into the room.
Mark looked at the woman in front of him. Her face, fair and clear. Her nose, petite and beautiful. Her eyes. Especially her eyes. Those were spirited eyes that were so clear that they could just talk to him. He cannot deny that the woman standing in front of him was a world class beauty.
The woman beside Mark was also a woman of beauty. However, she was not the kind like Lyla; easy on the eyes.
When she saw how Mark was staring at Lyla Lowe, Kathleen Turner got annoyed.
“Why didn’t you knock on the door when you were outside? Are you eavesdropping?” said Kathleen. The look in her eyes was filled with disgruntlement. Perhaps Lyla had ruined her moment with Mark.
It was only then did Lyla notice Kathleen standing next to Mark Pattinson. She was wearing a short dress. And when Kathleen was looking at Lyla, the look of disdain coming from her was thorough; all the way from the inside to the outside.
Subconsciously, Lyla looked at Mark and noticed how he was looking straight at herself, silently, not talking. Perhaps he just wanted to watch the entire scene unfold. Maybe he thought so as well?
Lyla Lowe felt a sudden urge to laugh. She did not wait for the assistant to explain and said in a calm manner, “I think you are misunderstanding something here. Eavesdropping was never a hobby of mine. I am here just to seek the president for his signature. It’s all just a coincidence.”
‘Exactly a coincidence.’
“Really now?” said Kathleen with disbelief.
“Really,” said Lyla before she took out a few documents and handed them over to Mark Pattinson.
“Kat, go home. I still have work.”
“Mark…” Kathleen was clearly not satisfied.
“I’ll call you later,” said Mark. He was not one to repeat himself.
The assistant left without anyone knowing and at that moment, the large office was now just Mark Pattinson and Lyla Lowe.
“Lyla Lowe…” Mark murmured. His tone was something akin to carefree.
“Yes, President Pattinson?” Lyla answered with a faint smile. All she could think about then was to quickly escape from being looked at by Mark Pattinson. How could she remain calm when the person she was looking at looked exactly like her little boy?
The man in front of her, donning that deep blue shirt with the opened color, revealing the chiseled muscle within, looked very much like a matured man. However, whatever she saw in him, was nothing but the danger of the abyss.
“Am I handsome?” said Mark slowly.
“Excuse me?” Lyla was stumped. Somehow, that statement was incredibly familiar.
“The way you look at me. I can only feel that you would want to eat me whole,” said Mark as she smirked.
Lyla got annoyed and angry.
“President Pattinson, were you always this confident?”
‘Hmph. Who would want to stare at you? If you had not bore a resemblance to my darling boy, I would never want to even glance at you!’
“Confidence is something I invest in.” Mark’s reply was very much cringe-worthy.
‘Fine. This guy sure has confidence as his asset!’
Lyla was speechless.
Mark got off from his chair and slowly stepped towards Lyla. His towering structure was going to envelop her whole.
Nervous, she swallowed a mouthful of saliva and quickly retreated back.
However, the helpless Lyla was wearing a pair of high heels. As she was nervous, she accidently tripped. When she was about to be intimate with the floor, the next thing she knew, she fell into a warm embrace.
Her hands, coincidently, reached out for Mark’s firm arms.
