The maids exchanged incredulous glances, shocked that Mayra spoke to Anderson in such a manner.
Frowning, Julia couldn't help but speak up, "Don't be rude, Ms. Sadler."
Although Anderson's tone sounded angry, there was an inexplicable gentleness about him. He put down his dignified demeanor—which was rare—and tapped Mayra's plate with a fork. "Come eat. You can go later. Don't get hungry on the way."
With her hands on her hips, Mayra walked over to Anderson's left side and sat down. Then, she proceeded to gobble down the food.
Isabel, who remained silent, walked over and sat down on the other side. She even served Mayra a bowl of soup. "Why don't you come with us later? I'm going out too. Maybe we can drop you off on the way."
Mayra nodded. "Okay."
"Focus on eating. No talking during meals," Anderson interjected.
Isabel said, "It's okay. I like hearing Mayra talk. The table is too quiet without her voice anyway. I'm not quite used to that."
