Chapter 6: Beneath the Blood Moon
Luke got a small cut and although he tried to hide it, I saw the discomfort while he stood. It was getting late and I knew better than to enter the forest right after a scout.
I finished my dinner and picked up a basket from the pantry. I needed just two herbs and would not wander deep into the forest to search for it. I had to hurry, else it would be too dark to find the herbs I needed.
The estate was silent, save for the occasional rustle of leaves in the cool breeze. I moved toward the forest, running through the low bush. I knew just where to find the herbs. It was just after the clearing. Even though I was familiar with the path, each step felt like a journey into the unknown, and the shadows of the trees seemed to swallow me whole.
As I approached the clearing, my human senses were on high alert. I hesitated at the edge of the clearing, feeling a chill creep down my spine. Something was terribly wrong.
