Charlotte's heart clenched as a fleeting understanding flashed in her eyes. It felt like a sharp sting, a sudden pain. It suddenly made sense why only Daniel and Errol lived at Hoffman Estate and why Errol had mentioned that Sadie had struggled with depression. Charlotte remembered how Daniel had arranged everything for her, almost controlling her every move. She had bodyguards watching her whenever she left the house, pre-set meal portions, daily prenatal yoga, and even counseling sessions. Daniel had emphasized multiple times that everything he did was for the baby. He accepted the child and wanted it to be born healthy and strong. It turned out it was because of the painful experience he had gone through. "So, you're really afraid that our child won't make it, aren't you?" she asked softly. "Yes," Daniel replied. This was the first time Daniel spoke to her about his family, the first time he shared his fears about her pregnancy. The cold wind blew through the skybridge, but
