When Charlotte and Daniel arrived at the hospital, Elyse's ward door was shut tight, and the room beyond was packed with doctors and nurses. Charlotte rushed to the doorway, peering through the small window. But all she could see was a blur of white—so many people crowded around that even Elyse's hospital bed was out of sight. Panic clawed at her chest. She grabbed the door handle, desperate to get in, but it wouldn't budge. It was locked. "Please, let me in." She turned to the doctor standing at the door, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I need to be with my mom." "I'm sorry. I understand how you feel, but during emergency treatment, family members aren't allowed inside," the doctor replied. The last time Elyse underwent emergency treatment, Charlotte had been tied up with her part-time job and arrived only after it was over. Thankfully, Elyse had survived. But this time felt different. A deep, suffocating fear wrapped around Charlotte as if something unseen was trying
