I tried to back out of having dinner with Grandpa, but it was a done deal.
There was no going back on my words now. Grandpa wouldn't let me.
"Are you on your way over now?"
"No. I have to stop by my apartment and select the clothes I will be wearing to work tomorrow. I have to leave for work early," I informed him.
I waited, chewing on my lower lip, to check if Rachel had reported my absence at work to him.
But the questions didn't come, and I wheezed subtly in relief, twitching my eyebrows.
"Okay. Do what you have to do. I will ask the kitchen staff to have your favorite dinner prepared before your arrival."
"I will just have something light and fluffy. My stomach is still tender. I don't think I can eat much."
"What did you do to your stomach? Skipping meals again?"
"No, Grandpa. I'm just not up for eating much tonight."
"No problem. We will talk better when you get here. There are a lot of things we need to address."
Again, my heart pounded at Grandpa's insinuatio
