Eleanor arrived home to the stillness of an empty apartment. The absence of Lucas left her feeling unexpectedly hollow. In an impulsive move to fill the void, she dialed his number.
The phone barely rang before Lucas answered, his voice steady and calm. "Yes, Eleanor?"
"Where are you?" she asked, trying to mask the concern in her voice.
"I'm still at work," Lucas replied, his tone matter-of-fact.
A frown creased Eleanor's forehead. "You could have told me about it," she said, a hint of disappointment seeping through.
Lucas's response was tinged with uncertainty. "I didn't know you wanted me to message you or not."
Eleanor sighed, a wave of fatigue washing over her. "Lucas, I am so tired, please don't go there."
"Okay, don't wait for me because I'll be late," Lucas said, his voice soft but firm.
"All right," Eleanor replied, and with a brief goodbye, the call ended.
