[Margaret’s POV]
“We just—we need more time together,” I murmured, the words lingering in the air, though I wasn’t sure if I was trying to convince Elizabeth or simply myself.
Elizabeth’s brows furrowed, her disapproval sharp and clear. “Margaret, sometimes I honestly don’t know what you’re thinking.”
I shot her a glare, my patience thinning. “As if you’ve ever cared enough to try.” The bitterness in my voice caught even me off guard. I regretted missing her yesterday. She was still the same infuriating sister, pushing all the wrong buttons.
We walked in silence toward the front door, the tension between us almost tangible. Elizabeth yawned loudly, stretching her arms. “Alright, you go handle your work. I woke up early this morning just to give you something, so I’m heading back to bed.”
I blinked, stunned. “Early? Elizabeth, it’s almost noon.” I gestured to the sky, the sun high and unforgiving.
She shrugged nonchalantly. “Early for me.” With that, she turned on her heel, disapp
