Chapter 10 I’m Not Really Considered An Outsider

A young lady held the arm of her husband’s mother. As the approaching pair talked and laughed, Jade peered closely at that woman and recognized her. Coincidentally, she was the woman with Zephaniah last night. Zephaniah's mother would never have foreseen bumping into Jade Redfern at the Hospital. As their eyes met, a flush of embarrassment made its way to Zephaniah's mother’s face. She greeted Jade's mother and said with a smile, “I was feeling under the weather, so Zephaniah had Kirk bring me to the hospital, don’t think too much about it.” “I know, she’s Zephaniah’s personal assistant.” Jade Redfern met her smile with one of her own. She held on to her mother’s hands firmly. “But in the future, do call me, mom. Such matters don’t need to be the concern of outsiders.” Zephaniah's mother smiled sheepishly. But Blanche was an arrogant woman. When she heard Jade mocking her, her expression turned cold. “Miss Redfern, I am the personal assistant of Mister Zephaniah. Taking care of Mister Zephaniah's mother is also my business, I am not really considered as an outsider.” When Jade's mother saw how arrogant the mistress was, she grew unhappy and prepared to protest on her daughter’s behalf. Jade stopped her and calmly said, “Your boss is Mister Owens, I am his wife. Please call me Madame Owens, and not Miss Redfern. If such common sense is absent from your faculties, I’ll begin to suspect exactly how you managed to get to your position.” Blanche’s face only grew darker. Jade glanced over and smiled at Zephaniah's mother, who remained opposite of her. “Mom, I’m sorry about this. I happen to have some matters on hand and I won’t be able to accompany you back. I’ll have Miss Blanche escort you back. I’ll leave first.” “Alright.” Zephaniah's mother nodded curtly. She did not bother with pleasantries either. Jade Redfern caught a glimpse of Zephaniah's mother's contempt, but she feigned ignorance and held her mother as they brushed past each other. A heavy weight pressed down on her chest. Before the marriage, she had taken exceptional care of Zephaniah’s family. She would bring some gifts over whenever she visited Zephaniah’s family, regardless of the occasion. In spite of all that, Zephaniah’s family never showed her any signs of amiability. Only Zephaniah's mother treated her slightly better, but that was most probably only due to her family’s wealth. When Zephaniah's mother had a kidney stone and had to be hospitalized, Jade Redfern had spent half a month taking care of her at the hospital. She would make the three meals herself and travel to the hospital to feed Zephaniah's mother. She took care of her until she was discharged. The fact that none of her goodwill earned any acknowledgement from Zephaniah's mother further strained her fatigue. She was really tired. No matter how much effort she put in, Zephaniah would never care. When she left the hospital, Jade realized she had left out two bags of medicine. She turned around, asking her mother to wait there. When she met Blanche again at the long corridor, Zephaniah's mother was no longer by her side. When Blanche saw Jade, she approached briskly, her high heels striking the ground. “Let’s talk, Jade Redfern.” With how she carried herself, she was definitely on her figurative high horse. Jade did not even look at her as she attempted to walk past. But Blanche blocked her way at every turn, leaving her no choice but to stop. “What do you want to talk about?” “My name is Blanche Kirk, you can look my family history up,” Blanche said, her voice laced with slight contempt. “I know about your father’s downfall.” Jade forced a smile. “Everyone knows about my dad’s downfall, I would be surprised if you didn’t.” When she was at the hospital waiting for Zephaniah, she had used her mobile phone to look up on Blanche Kirk’s information. Her father dealt with real estate; his family were billionaires. Blanche Kirk was the stereotypical fair-skinned, rich, and beautiful woman. The reason behind why such a rich fine lady would end up as someone else’s assistant on her own volition was easily distinguishable. Blanche was clearly not in the mood to dance around Jade. She went straight for the heart. “I know you need two million dollars. Divorce Zephaniah Owens, and the two million dollars is yours as a gift from me. Without skipping a beat, she took a cheque from her handbag, wrote a few words, and handed it to Jade. Jade Redfern glanced at the cheque. ‘Ah, it’s really a cheque for two million dollars, with a stamp. If I agreed to it, I could take the cheque to the bank and take the cash out now.’ Jade Redfern did not accept it. She only took a look at her. “Zephaniah and I are happy together. Why should I divorce him? It’s not like I can’t find two million dollars elsewhere.”
