CHAPTER FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY SEVEN – THE FIRST SUSPECT
That evening, after the Bistro had closed, Marco and Don Cesaro stayed behind, ostensibly to do some paperwork. In reality, they were preparing to search Miguel's locker.
"I don't like this," Marco muttered as he picked the lock. "It feels wrong."
Don Cesaro placed a hand on his son's shoulder. "Sometimes we have to do things we don't like to protect what's ours. If Miguel is innocent, we'll never speak of this again."
As the locker swung open, they began to carefully sift through Miguel's belongings. At first, they found nothing out of the ordinary – a change of clothes, some deodorant, a tattered paperback novel.
Then, Marco's hand closed around a sleek smartphone hidden beneath a folded shirt. "This is odd," he murmured. "Why would he keep a second phone hidden in his locker?"
Don Cesaro's eyes narrowed. "Turn it on. Let's see what's on it."
The phone lit up, revealing a lock screen. Marco cursed under his breath. "It needs a passcode."
