CHAPTER THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FOUR – THE POLICE GET INVOLVED
The early morning sun streamed through the windows of Cesaro's Bistro as Jasmine prepared for another day. She was reviewing the previous night's receipts when the front door burst open, startling her.
Two stern-faced detectives strode in, their badges glinting in the sunlight. "Jasmine Delacroix?" the taller one asked.
Jasmine nodded, her heart racing. "Yes, that's me. Can I help you?"
The detective's face hardened. "Ms. Delacroix, we need you to come with us. We have some questions regarding your involvement with the Moretti family."
Jasmine's blood ran cold. "My involvement? There must be some mistake."
"No mistake, ma'am," the shorter detective said, producing a pair of handcuffs. "We have evidence linking you to several illegal operations. You're coming with us."
As they led her out of the bistro, Jasmine caught sight of Marco across the street. Their eyes met, and she saw the shock and confusion on his face. "Marco!" she called out. "Call Luca! Tell him what's happening!"
