CHAPTER THREE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN – MOVING ON TO ANOTHER PLACE
The next morning dawned bright and clear. Jasmine stood in the courtyard of the compound, her small suitcase at her feet.
She had said goodbye to most of the family already – Luisa's warm hugs, Carlos's sullen nod, Lucia's tearful embrace. Now, she was waiting for her ride to her new apartment in town.
"All set?" Don Cesaro's voice came from behind her.
Jasmine turned, nodding. "Yes, I think so. Don Cesaro, I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for me."
The Don waved his hand dismissively. "No need for thanks, my dear. You are family now, and we protect our own." His expression grew serious. "Remember, you must be cautious. Your new life as Sofia Russo must be flawless. No slip-ups, no contact with your past. Understood?"
Jasmine swallowed hard. "Yes, I understand."
Don Cesaro's face softened slightly. "Good. Now, there is one last person who wishes to see you off."
As if on cue, Marco appeared, his hands shoved deep in his pockets. Don Cesaro nodded to them both
