CHAPTER THREE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE – A NIGHT TO CELEBRATE
"Oops," he said, not sounding sorry at all. "Clumsy me. Marco, could you help clean this up?"
Marco sighed, releasing Jasmine's hand reluctantly. "I'll be right back," he promised.
As Marco went to help his brother, Jasmine found herself alone once again. She wandered through the celebration, taking in the sights and sounds. Children ran past, their faces painted like colorful skulls, while older family members shared stories of their departed loved ones.
Jasmine paused before an altar dedicated to Gordon, feeling a pang of sadness and guilt. She had been so caught up in her new life that she had almost forgotten the reason she was here in the first place.
"He would be proud of you, you know," a voice said behind her.
Jasmine turned to find Don Cesaro standing there, his eyes kind. "Gordon was a good man. He fought for justice, just as you are doing now."
Jasmine nodded, blinking back tears. "Thank you, Don Cesaro. I just wish... I wish I could have done more."
