I let out a secret sigh of relief when Claire left. I was really scared she would grill me about my mother and Landon. I didn’t want to lie to her, but neither did I have the guts to tell her the truth. But peace did not return after Kieran’s mother took her leave. Rainey had not stopped sobbing. For a long while, the entire living room was filled with just the sound of her snivelling. But she still retained the presence of mind to keep quiet when she sensed Kieran’s foul mood. In contrast, her mother had never mastered the art of reading the room. Shannon was glowering at me as if trying to blow up my head with her mind.
