Happy Family Time
I held my phone and listened as the sparring match morphed into a makeout session.
I didn’t need to be a detective to know Conor didn’t spend the night in the hotel room I booked for him.
I shrugged—I should have seen it coming.
‘Stop!’ Eimile protested, panting. ‘The call’s still connected!’
‘Amiyah?’ Conor’s voice came on the line, sounding out of breath. ‘Can you call back later if it’s not urgent? I’m kind of in the middle of something.’
‘Yeah, I got that.’ I rolled my eyes.
‘Then why are you still on the line?’
‘You didn’t give me a chance to hang up.’ I smirked. ‘That was Eimile, wasn’t it?’
‘Yes. Go ahead and laugh.’
‘Why would I do that?’ I teased him.
This was the man who, less than twenty-four hours ago, vowed never to get involved with Eimile again.
‘I went back on my own word. Sue me. But do it later. I’m busy right now.’
Then all I heard was the busy tone.
