‘What’s wrong?’ Kieran kissed my neck, his arms around my waist.
I stared at his reflection in the bathroom mirror. ‘Can’t you tell?’
‘You are mad.’
I rolled my eyes. ‘Anyone with eyes can see that.’
He sighed. ‘I’m sorry, honey.’
I turned on the faucet and washed my hands. ‘Not your fault.’
‘I’ll talk to Sarah.’
‘Fine.’ I shrugged, filled a glass with water, started brushing my teeth.
‘You know I’m in a difficult position here.’ He held the glass for me.
I nodded.
He was just as unprepared for Sarah’s return as I was.
I wasn’t mad at him.
I was mad at the situation.
He waited for me to finish brushing my teeth.
‘She has designs on you.’ I spat out a mouthful of foam.
‘Um…’
‘Yes, she does!’ I whirled around, stabbed a finger at his chest. ‘A woman can always tell.’
‘My heart belongs to you, you know that.’ He looked me in the eye.
‘I know.’ I sighed. ‘But apparently, she doesn’t.’
I walked out of the bathroom, made sure the bedroom door was closed and locked, then went to him.
