”Are they still hiring?” Cecelia thought she misheard, “Did you just ask me if they’re still hiring?” “Yes.” “Why do you ask?” Did he finally discover his conscience, that a man should not be relying on a woman, and he wanted to work at last? If that was the case, that would be absolutely superb! As long as he was willing to work, even a monthly wage of one thousand would be sufficient. She did not expect him to make much; she only hoped that he was driven! Cecelia did not realize she was starting to worry for William. William slowly drank the last mouthful of milk before he replied, “To work.” “You—say that again, what do you want to do?” Heavens be blessed if she heard it correctly! “To work!” William repeated patiently. “You really want to work?” Cecelia was extremely excited, even more excited than the time she was admitted to university. In contrast to Cecelia, William was as calm as always, “Yes!” “Wow!” Cecelia stood up, held William’s face in her hands, and leaned into his mouth, “Mwah!” An oblivious Cecelia was so excited she did not realize what she did. After kissing William, she sang and danced. “I’m so happy, I feel that life has reached its peak, reached its peak—” At this moment, Cecelia had totally lost track of herself! Even if they did, they might not want a husband and wife working together. “What are his qualifications and past working experience?” Linda asked two very standard questions, but Cecelia was stumped immediately. She did not know the answer to the first, but the second was ‘none’. Cecelia bit her lips. “Linda, to tell you the truth, this friend of mine has no working experience. But I’m highly confident that he’ll adjust to the workplace very quickly. He’s incredibly clever. Perhaps you can meet him first?” Cecelia did not expect that Linda would agree to it, and even said, “You can ask him to come here now. There’s a vacancy at the moment. I don’t think there’ll be a problem, especially with someone recommended by you.” “Really?” Cecelia was full of gratitude. “Thank you, Linda. You’re really kind. The moment Cecelia saw him, she frowned, “Why didn’t you change your clothes?” He was wearing the same clothes from the night before. William replied, “No more.” “What’s no more?” Cecelia had all but forgotten what happened just a day prior, her mind full of hopes that Linda would take a liking to William. “Clothes.” “You have so much clothing, what do you mean no more?” Cecelia’s brows drew tighter. “Didn’t you do the laundry?” William looked at her and said slowly, “Returned it.” “Returned it?” Cecelia finally understood. “You mean to say, you returned all the clothes, and the reason you came back late last night, was because of that?” “Yes.” Cecelia was utterly dumbstruck. He listened to her, which was good, but— If he was going to work in the future, things like clothes and shoes are a must! This was— Absolutely ridiculous! Forget it, it was too late to say anything now. Cecelia decided to bring him to her office first, to give him a short, simple prepping. She was so focused on walking she did not notice the respectful glances sent by the employees in William’s direction while they were walking, but they quickly averted their gaze with a single look from William. Cecelia used her comb on William’s hair and tidied up his clothes and appearance. She scrutinized her handiwork. “Such a pretty boy indeed, even ordinary house clothes look stylish on you. Alright then, let’s go, I’ll bring you to meet the department head.” When Linda laid eyes on William, she was absolutely dumbstruck and heaved a breath of cold air, “Mis…” Cecelia apologized quickly, “Linda, I’m sorry, we’re late.” Cecelia thought she was about to chastise them. Subsequently, Linda saw William’s meaningful stare and she rapidly sorted her emotions, “That’s fine. At the end, needless to say, William was successful in his interview, and he was given an office next to Cecelia’s. “I can’t believe you actually made it!” Standing in William’s office, Cecelia was still uncertain about the whole situation. Bumping against William’s shoulder next to her, Cecelia laughed cheerily like a child, “Pretty boy, I’ve gotten you such a wonderful job. Say, how’re you going to repay me?” William Sandler looked at her and said, “I’ll offer myself in return!”
