CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY - THREE - A LURKING DANGER
The car wound its way through narrow, winding roads, the dense forest on either side occasionally giving way to breathtaking views of the Italian countryside. Rebecca's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions, but she forced herself to focus on the present, on the warmth of Helena in her arms and the reassuring presence of Luca beside her.
After what felt like hours, they pulled up to a small, unassuming villa nestled in the hills. The stone walls and terracotta roof blended seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, making it nearly invisible from a distance.
Luca parked the car and turned to Rebecca, his eyes softening as he took in her exhausted expression. "We're here, amore. This place has been in my family for generations, but it's not on any official records. You'll be safe here."
Rebecca managed a weak smile. "It's beautiful, Luca. But... how long will we have to stay?"
