4 Stupid maids
Receiving no response from her, he took a step forward and Karen walked backward. She was ready to open the door and run away when the man blocked the distance between them and he locked the door with the keys. Her back hit against the wall with panic and she watched the man put the keys into his pocket before coming to stand in front of her.
Karen felt awful for taking something that didn’t belong to her. But she needed the money to pay the debts she was owing. With the little actions from the man now, she knew she was in hot soup. The man wouldn’t let her go easily. But wait, he didn’t know she was the one who stole the money, did he?
“Tell me now....” He placed his hand on the wall above her head for her breathing to hitch. “Did you have anything to do with my money back then at the hospital?”
His cold blue eyes stared at her brown eyes. She thought he was a warm kind man but who knew this man was as cold as ice.
She blinked a few times before opening her mouth to speak. “Why would you think that of me?” She asked, making sure her voice was as smooth as nothing before so the man wouldn’t suspect a thing.
“Don’t even make that face on me.” He warned her.
She gulped softly. “What face are you talking about?”
“The face you wore when I asked you about the money.” He replied. “How rude of you to take what doesn’t belongs to you. Don’t you know you can be punished right now for doing that.”
“You didn’t think I would find out who stole my money after you left, did you?” He said.
She hung her head low in shame. If only she had enough she wouldn’t have done what she did at the hospital. Taking what didn’t belong to her and thinking she wouldn’t get caught.
“What am I going to do with you now?” He asked, standing straight up.
“Let me go for this one I promise it would never happen again.” She pleaded, hoping he would mercy her.
He looked down at her, the corner of his lips tugging into a small smile. “I can not spare you off this one. You should know the rules of this Mansion. You do something that doesn’t please with me and a penny would be deducted from your salary. Who knows if you would try to steal from me again if you start working here?”
He took a step backward before opening his mouth to speak. “Little amount would be deducted from your salary. Continue with it and you would not get to work in this Mansion again.”
“Thank you.” Karen bowed her head.
“You may leave and resume work tomorrow.” He said.
Karen didn’t waste any more time and she dashed out of the room. She brought her hand close to her chest. Her heart was beating so fast at the thought that she would be spending most of her time with this man.
When she reached outside the house, she met Jenny who was waiting for her close to the woman’s car.
“How did it go for you? Did you see him? The Boss?” Jenny asked in excitement.
“It ended badly for me. I don’t think I can work here in this place.” Karen shook her head remembering what happened. “We should tell her we aren’t interested.”
“She had already forwarded the money into our account.” Jenny whispered. “I heard she is the Boss Manager. She is the one in charge of the spending. Anyways why do you not want to work here? The pay is good.”
“I know but there is a problem.” Karen said, dragging her friend to a corner.
“Don’t go too far. We will be leaving soon.” The woman said to them.
“What is it?” Jenny asked.
“The money I told you about. Nobody gave me the money freely. I stole it.” Karen confessed.
“I knew it.” Jenny snapped.
“You knew about it? How?” Karen asked.
“I have never seen any man who would be generous enough to give you that amount of money. I mean, he paid the hospital bills.” Jenny said.
Karen sighed, bringing her hands to rub her forehead. “He knew I was the one who stole the money. Now I do not know what to do.”
“You will be fine.” Jenny patted her back and they both walked back to meet the woman.
She was standing close to Noah and the both of them were discussing a few things. After some time, she leaned forward and pressed her lips against his cold cheek.
“Thank you.” She said.
The man’s expression didn’t change and it remained cold. When his eyes moved to Karen, she quickly looked away.
“We should go now.” The woman said. They opened the car door and sat down on the back seat.
When they arrived at their house, Karen sat down on the couch watching Jenny chew the apple in her hand.
“I already forwarded the payment for the coffin to the man.” Karen said.
“I will make sure to pay some of the debts tomorrow before we leave.” Jenny said. When she noticed Karen’s dull expression, she moved closer to her.
“Karen I am very concerned about your feelings. You don’t look happy.” Jenny said.
“I will try my best not to get on his bad side since he spoke about deducting salary if I fail any of the written agreement.” She said, a sigh following after.
....
That evening as Noah and Travis sat down for dinner, Noah didn’t bother to glance at his brother. He fixed his gaze on the phone in his hands.
The butler walked inside the dining room with the tray of food in his hand. Since maids were not allowed to step in this side of the Mansion, he was the one in charge of serving them food. But tonight, he decided to come with another maid as the food he was carrying was much.
Out of nervousness, the maid missed her footings and she stumbled nearly falling on Travis who held her in place to stop her from falling on top of him.
Travis stood up from the chair with anger flashing across his eyes. He grabbed the maid’s neck and pressed her neck against the wall.
“Travis.” Noah called and he let go of her neck.
“What is a low maid like her doing upstairs? Isn’t it the duty of the butler to serve the food?” Travis asked going back to his chair.
“Yes. But as you can see the food is much tonight.” Noah said.
“I don’t care.” He pushed the maid before wiping his hand with the napkin.
“Stupid maids.” He hissed.
“You haven’t made any plans of leaving. Maybe you should leave tomorrow.” Noah said, taking a bite from the chicken.
“We shouldn’t start arguing now.” Travis said in a calm tone. “I already told you I came back to stay. Am I not welcomed in my brothers home?”
“No.” Noah shook his head. “Just yesterday and you injured a maid. If you keep on behaving like that we would have maids visiting the hospital frequently and I don’t want that.”
“You should leave.” Noah stood up from the chair and walked away.
