CHAPTER 12: FIRST MEAL OF REVENGE

Lauretta remained wide-eyed as she lay on her bed, her thoughts filled with nothing except what transpired between her and George. In annoyance, she got up from her bed and dressed in something more comfortable before she walked out of her room. To her surprise, the party wasn't over, so she slipped out the back and headed to the quiet garden behind the house. She sat down on one of the empty benches and stared up at the night skies. With everyone networking inside, the backyard was peaceful and private, just what she needed. She understood the banquet's real motive despite being held ostensibly in her honor - an opportunity for her family's associates to lobby for partnerships and favors. With no desire to entertain such agendas, the isolated backyard suited her perfectly. Suddenly, she heard the sounds of footsteps approaching her way. She stared towards the sound and saw Juliet heading towards her. "Lauretta!" Julianna called out. "Where have you been? I was worried sick when I
