The air in the hospital ward was thick with despair. One person was trying desperately to reach another's heart, but all they received was indifference. "Mr. Sullivan, our plane is ready." The cold voice outside snapped Griffin back to his senses. After pulling himself together, he lifted the blanket off Nicole, who was still wearing her hospital gown. He gently scooped her up. "Don't worry. We're going home now." Yet, the woman curled up in his arms remained motionless. A wave of hopelessness washed over Griffin. If Nicole still had any sense left, she would have done whatever it took to leave him behind right now. That would have been her best chance to escape this country.
