As Elaine woke up the following day, she still couldn't fathom what had happened the day before.
She tried to convince herself that it was all just a dreary nightmare, but when she shut her eyes, Sherman's words kept resounding in her mind, "Find a way to make her leave in peace."
Elaine felt her heart bleed as she gazed up at the ceiling, her eyes wide open, taking in the intricate painting that depicted a paradisiacal landscape with scores of little cherubs fluttering about.
