We weren’t ready to leave the pack house until the sun hung high in the sky. Warren wanted us to wait longer, but how could I? We’d all felt it. The moment Erina lost herself to lust. How could any of us willingly let her stay one more day with that dragon? We were healed enough; we needed to get our mate back.
Jack wagged his tail at me, sniffing the air. Some of his bounce had returned from yesterday, and it brought with it a sense of relief. I was worried he’d been broken. “Why is it so hard to catch their scent?” He sniffed at the ground again, scowling. “And it’s not cause of the blood. I can smell just fine through that. There’s something else.” He tilted his head to the side, deep in thought.
“It’s because they flew.” Warren pointed out. “They must have shifted at some point and taken to the air. It’s why the scent is so faint around here. All we’re really detecting is the blood droplets that found their way down. Those won’t last for too long. There’s too few.”
