Chapter 3

It was a call from Stacy's mother, Gina Payne. "I heard from Cindy that you and Stacy have gotten into a fight." "What? No, we haven't. It's just that she's started dating someone," I said casually. "Dating someone? Hasn't she always been dating you?" Gina sounded surprised. "Me? When did something like that happen? Has she been using me as a cover or something?" I asked. Then, I continued bluntly, "Whatever it is, she and I are just friends. I don't know that much about her life." I hung up without another word. In the past, the Greene family would always approach me when they wanted to know more about what Stacy was up to. If I were to tell on her, she would immediately come after me and cause trouble for me. And so, I would generally cover up for her. Now, however, I would no longer do that. … I'd left campus today to set up a company. I had my memories of the major events that would happen over the next four years, and I had my family's power on my side. This time, success would come much easier to me than it had in my past life. At the same time, I was also devising a plan to acquire the Greene family's business. Since I wanted revenge, I had to make Stacy lose everything that she currently had. It wasn't hard to set up a company. That afternoon itself, I got the license to operate. As for the purpose of operation, I decided to set up a multimedia company, which was related to my family's business. Over the next four years, new media would become a major trend. Traditional media would also undergo a huge change. I wasn't just setting up a company to take over the Greene family's business; I also wanted to bring my family's business to greater heights. … When I returned to campus, I ran into Stacy, who looked furious. "Stop right there, Xavier!" "What do you want now?" I stopped where I was and looked at her in confusion. "I didn't expect you to be like this! I'm just dating someone, aren't I? How could you tell on me to my mother? You're nothing but a worthless loser! If you have the guts, come compete with Luca! What's the point of pulling all these lowbrow tricks in secret?" Stacy snapped. We were standing before the male dormitory, and several gazes landed on me. Because of Stacy's beauty, the male onlookers couldn't help eyeing me with hostility and smugness. "Don't make yourself out to be such a victim, Stacy. Whether you're dating someone and whoever you're dating is none of my business," I said seriously. Then, I turned and left. She wouldn't get far in life if she could treat a piece of trash like Luca like a precious treasure. What was the point of arguing with her? It was unnecessary. Stacy didn't seem to believe me, though. She followed me all the way to the dormitory's entrance. "If you didn't care, would you have told my family about it? If anything goes wrong with my relationship because of you, I won't let you off the hook!" The threat in her words was clear. In that instant, I was reminded of how smug she'd looked after killing me in my past life. I couldn't stop myself from slapping her. She staggered backward, holding her face as she looked at me in disbelief. "How dare you slap me!" she screeched. She charged at me, wanting to attack me in return. I took a step back and entered the male dormitory. "Listen up, Stacy—your business has nothing to do with me; you can do whatever the hell you want. If not for your mother asking what you were up to, I wouldn't even have bothered saying anything. Fuck off, bitch!" I had to admit that it felt great to curse at her. It was as if a weight had been lifted off my chest. My actions stunned everyone in the dormitory building. The other students stopped to gape at me and Stacy. She stared at me in shock and trembled violently as everyone watched. "Just you wait, Xavier!" After that, she ran off with a hand on her face. I frowned and shook my head. I knew trouble was coming my way. As expected, I had to pay the price for my vindication. Women like Stacy were trouble wherever they went. I returned to my dorm, where my dormmates stared at me. They knew about my past relationship with Stacy, so they didn't probe me. Less than ten minutes later, my phone rang. The call was from Cindy. As soon as I answered, she shrieked, "How dare you slap her, Xavier Wright!" "Oh? What, aren't you even going to find out what happened before pushing the blame on me?" I asked calmly. "No proper man gets physical with women, and that was Stacy you slapped! You're an asshole!" I held my phone further away from my ear, but it didn't help to soften the shrillness of Cindy's voice. "Uh-huh. Tell her to go pester a proper man, then. Leave me alone." I hung up. Cindy was another fool who only knew how to scream and shout at me. It was all she'd done when Luca had taken Stacy away. All I could say was that her act was getting boring. Besides, I had plenty of tasks to keep me busy. I'd just established my company, and I had to invest plenty of time into producing short films and short videos.
