Chapter 54 - In the Face of Betrayal
Ramin moved and opened his eyes slowly, acclimating to the prison cell's low light. A stranger was kneeling at his side, and as his body ached from fatigue and wounds, something else surged within him, a glimmer of hope.
Focusing on her face, the recognizable features, the dark eyes he had dreamed about so many times in the forest, made his heart race, the woods witch.
"Is it... really you?" Ramin whispered, his voice raspy. His head ached terribly, and he blinked carefully, not sure if he was hallucinating. Her hands shook as they lingered close to him as she hurried to him and knelt down.
“Yes, it's me” she whispered with a voice that was both sorrowful and relieved.
A faint, pleasant laugh slipped out of Ramin's throat,
“I knew you'd come for me” he whispered, a smile forming on his lips,
“I knew you wouldn't leave me here”
He had fought valiantly against Valtheon's armies while at war with his brothers, and his head ached as memories of the conflict started to come flooding
