Chapter 5

Laura I made my way back to Tracy's place, then I sent a text to everyone I was supposed to pick up groceries for, apologizing that I wouldn't be able to get their groceries, I called my boss at the restaurant and asked for the rest of the day off and I fell right asleep, only waking up when Tracy got home. "Laura, what's wrong? Are you sick?" She asked as I sat up. "He came to my workplace," I said feeling chills. "Who? Jack?" She asked and I nodded. "He tried to force me to go with him but I refused, he even threatened me with a knife but I got away thanks to a nice lady," "That guy is crazy," she said and I sighed. "What are you going to do now Laura?" "I don't know, but I don't want to get back together with him," "No you won't, first we have to get out of here, you know he would come looking for you here soon, so we have to act fast," "We'll leave here and find somewhere else to stay, we have no idea just what he's willing to do to get you back," "Oh Tracy, I'm so sorry for dragging you into this mess, I am," I said sincerely. "No worries, grab the things you'd need, and let's get out of here," she said, getting up quickly. We packed a small bag then we left her place. Thankfully we found an affordable hotel that was not too far from her place. "Once again I'm sorry for dragging you into this mess," I said after we settled and she waved her hand like she was trying to clear the apology. "You are my friend Laura, you're like a sister to me and I'll do anything for you," she said and I hugged her. Tracy is an only child, also an orphan who had suffered a lot of injustice, I met her when we were in high school and it was like she said, we were like sisters, inseparable, and she stood by me every time, every day, I'm thankful I have her. "What's with this gloomy atmosphere, let's go have some fun, Laura," she said releasing me. "Fun?" I asked wondering what she was up to. "Why are you sounding like you don't know what fun means?" she said, smirking. "I know what it means Tracy, I just don't know what you are up to," I said, knowing that she was definitely up to something "Don't worry, we are just going to have fun," she said laughing, she held up her hands to declare her innocence but we both knew she was anything but that. "Oh good now I'm worried, what do you have in mind?" I said, genuinely worried. "Clubbing," she said with a conspiratorial grin. "What?, No!" I said, shaking my head vigorously. "Come on Laura, there is a club nearby, we can have a drink or two, dance a little, and then we come back here," she said pleadingly. "Why clubbing?" I asked with a whiny voice. "Just because, and we watched movies and chilled yesterday, we can't go to the amusement park now because of the time, it's not like there's even one nearby," she said and I sighed. "How about we have dinner at a fancy restaurant? My treat," I said and she gave me the puppy face. "What?" I asked trying my best to resist the puppy's face. "Having a fancy dinner is not as fun as clubbing," she said giving me the puppy face again. "Okay, but I don't have anything to wear," I said and she squeaked happily. "We will get you something to wear outside, I saw a clothing store downstairs," she said, beaming. "The things you make me do Tracy," I said, smiling as I shook my head. "I know baby, let's get started," she chuckled. We went to the clothing store and we were able to get gowns and shoes, I got a black knee-length gown, while Tracy got a blue gown, we both got white heels then we went back to our hotel room to style our hair, put on some makeup and get dressed. "These dresses look like they will be uncomfortable," I told Tracy as she styled my hair. "I agree with you they look like they will be uncomfortable but I'm sure they will serve their purpose," she said, shrugging. "What purpose?" I asked, with a confused expression on my face. "These are bodycon gowns, Laura, they are meant to bring out our shape," she said. "Tracy!" I said visibly shocked. "What?" "If I can, I'll smack you right now," "No, you won't girl, you can stand up now I'm done," "Wow!, Tracy, you are good at this," I said checking myself out in the mirror. "I know, now, come help me style my hair," she said, sitting down in front of the mirror. I styled her hair and we got dressed, we don't fancy heavy makeup so we went with a mild look, we looked really beautiful by the time we finished. We took a cab to the club and we were asked to drop our phones at the counter, I suspected it must've been because a lot of VVIPs frequented the club and wanted to maintain their privacy. When we got in everywhere was buzzing and people were dancing, everyone had a drink and the music was loud, those on the dancefloor were sweating hard from all the dancing. We made our way to the bar to get a drink but I didn't know what to get so I told the bartender to surprise me, he gave me a blue-colored drink that tasted nice, and the alcohol spread in my throat when I swallowed, Tracy had the same drink. We were chilling when a guy walked up to us. "Hi, I'm Ethan," "I'm Tracy and she is Laura," Tracy answered smiling. "Nice meeting you guys, would you like to dance, Tracy?" He asked and Tracy looked at me, I nodded letting her know she could go ahead to dance with him. "I hope you don't mind me asking her to dance," he said and I shook my head. They left for the dance floor while I finished my drink, I asked for another glass because it tasted nice. I looked forward and I saw a guy sitting alone, I noticed a group of ladies giggling and nodding towards him but what they were doing was not interesting to me, the drink I had with me was. Guys came over to ask me to dance but I wasn't really in the mood, I found myself thinking about everything that had ever happened to me. The drink made me feel warm and comfortable, I found myself getting a few more glasses, downing them as soon as I got them, I didn't stop at four glasses, nor did I stop at five, I lost count after the seventh glass.
